A number of University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown track and field athletes qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship meet at this past weekend's NCAA Division II Pre-National Meet. The meet took place at Norfolk State University and saw Mountain Cats qualify for the PSAC meet in a variety of events.
Mayah Charity, Christian Thornton, and Andrew Jeffrey hit qualifying marks in the 200 meter dash. Charity finished in 26.11 seconds. Thornton bested Jeffrey by 0.05 seconds to take home a top 30 spot. Their times were 22.62 seconds and 22.67 seconds respectively.
The meet also saw many Mountain Cats move into the top five of performances on the program's all-time list. The Women's DMR ran a time of 13:18.22. This ranks 10th in the PSAC and 5th all time in the history of the program. Luke Cimakasky earned a personal best time in the mile. His time was 4:23.03 which ranked 7th at this meet. Brant Patterson and Noah Lee both qualified in the 800 meter run. Patterson ran a 2:03.57 while Lee ran a personal best of 1:59.12. Kate Yahner placed third in the pole vault with a top mark of 3.40 meters. This was good enough to qualify for the PSAC championships. Marcello Legister set a personal record in the 60 meter hurdles. His time of 9.10 seconds also ranks 3rd in the history of the program. Logan Williams qualified and ran an indoor personal best in the 400 meter dash. He finished in 51.24 seconds. This ranks all-time for UPJ. Lastly, Nick Demateis threw for 13.25 meters in the shot put. This is a personal best and ranks second in the history of UPJ track and field.

This weekend the Mountain Cats travel the Mount Union Raider Tune Up in Alliance, Ohio. This marks the last meet before the 2023 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 25th and 26th.
