Pitt-Johnstown connected for three home runs and used strong pitching from
Ben Briggs and
Luke Schrock, who held Glenville State (WV) to just a run on three hits, in a 6-1 victory over the Pioneers to open the MEC/PSAC Classic, Friday afternoon in Glenville, W.Va. The Mountain Cats are 3-1.
Garrett Prosper's two-run homer in the top of the first gave Pitt-Johnstown the early lead, before Glenville scored one in its half of the third.
The Mountain Cats belted two more homers in the seventh.
Justin Turcovski led off the inning with a solo shot, before
Mario Disso's two run homer increased it to 5-1.
Dylan Broderick added an RBI single in the top of the ninth and Pitt-Johnstown went onto the 7-1 win.
Briggs and Schrock did the rest on the mound for the Mountain Cats. Briggs picked up the win and evened his record at 1-1 after limiting the Pioneers to just one run on two hits over the first five



innings. Briggs fanned eight and walked a pair. Schrock tossed the final four scoreless innings and surrendered just one hit to earn the save. He struck out five and walked just one.
Disso went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while Erick Rhodes had two hits, including a double for Pitt-Johnstown.
With the loss, Glenville State slipped to 3-3.
The Mountain Cats will take on No. 18 Millersville on Saturday and No. 8 West Chester on Sunday to close out the MEC-PSAC Challenge, before traveling to Cadiz, OH to play a four-game non-conference series against West Liberty (WV) next weekend. Pitt-Johnstown is scheduled to make its 2023 home debut with a four-game series against East Stroudsburg on March 17-18 at Point Stadium.
