Josh Reynolds went 3-for-6 with a 3-run homer, but 18
th-ranked Millersville rallied for a 9-8 victory in 11 innings over the Pitt-Johnstown baseball team in Saturday's second round of the MEC/PSAC Classic in Glenville, W.Va. The Mountain Cats are now 3-2.
Pitt-Johnstown jumped out to a quick lead on Reynolds' two-out, three-run homer in the top off the first off Millersville starter Alex Mykut, before Josh Ullery's two-run homer in the second increased it to 5-0.
After
Mario Disso's sacrifice fly plated Ullery in the fourth to make it 6-0, Millersville came back with four runs in its half of the fourth off of Mountain Cat starter
Rodney Shultz.
The Mountain Cats got one back on
Devon Boyles' lead-off homer in the fifth, before single runs from the Marauders in each of the next three innings tied it at seven.
Millersville took the lead in the bottom of the eight, but
Evan Beach's solo homer in the Pitt-Johnstown ninth quickly tied it at eight.
However, the Marauders loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11
th and Keegan Solti drew a walk off of Mountain Cat reliever
Zach Slis to break the tie and take the 9-8 win.
Along with Reynolds,
Garrett Prosper had two hits, including a double, and Ullery had two hits and a homer for the Mountain Cats. Pitt-Johnstown also got two hits from
Dylan Broderick and a solo homer from Beach.
Noah Zadroga suffered the loss after being credited with the run in the bottom of the 11
th. Shultz tossed the first three innings and surrendered four runs on four hits, while walking six and fanning a pair.
With the win, Millersville improved to 9-3.
The Mountain Cats will wrap-up the MEC/PSAC Classic against No. 8 West Chester on Sunday, before traveling to Cadiz, OH to play a four-game non-conference series against West Liberty (WV) next weekend. Pitt-Johnstown is scheduled to make its 2023 home debut with a four-game series against East Stroudsburg on March 17-18 at Point Stadium.
