Eighth-ranked West Chester jumped out to a 4-1 lead and added two runs in the ninth to defeat Pitt-Johnstown, 6-1, in Sunday's finale of the 2023 MEC/PSAC Classic in Glenville, W.Va.
Dylan Broderick collected two hits for the Mountain Cats, now 3-3.
After Joe Kaleck's three-run homer in the top of the second gave West Chester the early lead, Pitt-Johnstown answered with a run in the bottom of the third when
Joey Maun singled-home
Alex Glumac from second.
The Golden Rams added a run in the fourth off of Mountain Cat starter
Seth Shuey, before tacking on two more insurance runs in the ninth on John DeMucci's two-out, two-run single off of
Brando Souders.
Broderick was 2-for-4 with a double and Maun had a hit and an RBI for Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats also base hits from
Evan Beach,
Mario Disso, and Glumac.
Shuey took the loss and slipped to 0-1after pitching the first four innings and allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking one.
Ben Tomb struck out five and held West Chester scoreless on four hits over the


next four innings.
Kaleck went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI for the Golden Rams.
Ryan DeHaven earned the win after allowing one run in five innings, and David Ferguson pitched the final four innings to pick-up the save.
The Golden Rams are now 6-1.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Cadiz, OH to play a four-game non-conference series against West Liberty (WV) on Saturday and Sunday, before visiting Charleston (WV) for three games on March 11 and 12. Pitt-Johnstown is scheduled to make its 2023 home debut with a four-game series against East Stroudsburg on March 17-18 at Point Stadium.
