
Following Wednesday's 77-73 victory over Slippery Rock in the opening round in the Sports Center, the Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball team will make its fourth straight appearance in the PSAC Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals. The Mountain Cats will make the trip to Erie to take on West No.2-seeded Mercyhurst on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday's winner will advance to Saturday's PSAC Semifinals at the highest remaining seed in the PSAC Eastern Division.

The top six teams from both the Eastern and Western Division earned an opportunity to compete in the PSAC Men's Basketball Championship. The top two teams from each division earned a first-round bye. The highest remaining seed from the Eastern Division will host the 2022 semifinals and finals. The tournament winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament.
Pitt-Johnstown secured its third straight 20-win season and improved to 20-9 with Monday's win over Slippery Rock.
John Paul Kromka's game-highs of 22 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks led four Mountain Cat double figure scorers.
Andrew Shull (14 points),
Caiden Landis (13 points), and
Jared Jakubick (12 points) also scored in double figures against the Rock.
Kromka leads the team in scoring (17.3 ppg.) and rebounding (7.1 rpg.), while Jakubick (11.2 ppg.) and
Shull (11.1 ppg.) are also scoring in double figures. Pitt-Johnstown is also getting 9.9 ppg. from
Ryan Smith and also 9.8 ppg from
Joe Batt.
Mercyhurst, ranked 16
th in the NABC Coaches National Poll and 18
th in the D2SIDA Poll, enters the game at 22-4 and winners of four straight games, including Saturday's 105-70 regular season finale at Gannon.
Nicholas Lang scored 18 points, and
Jeff Planutis and
MiyKah McIntosh each netted 17 points to pace five Lakers who scored in double figures.
Through 26 games, Planutis (15.4 ppg.),
Michael Bradley (14.5 ppg.), Lang (11.9 ppg.), and McIntosh (10.2 ppg.) lead Mercyhurst in scoring.
Pipeloluwa Ajayi and Lang lead the team in rebounding at 6.9 and 6.0 rebounds per game, respectively.
The Mountain Cats and Lakers split a pair of games in the regular season with each team winning on its home court. On Jan. 23 in the Sports Center, Kromka's double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds and Shull's 16 points guided Pitt-Johnstown to a 73-61 victory. Mercyhurst answered with an 85-69 win in Erie on Feb. 15 behind Bradley's game-high 27 points and McIntosh's 21 points. Smith's scored 22 points, Kromka had 18 points, and Shull tallied 16 points for the Mountain Cats.
