
Cassidy Crawford dropped 11 points, three rebounds and three assists, and Pitt-Johnstown put together its most balanced scoring effort of the season thus far in shutting down Slippery Rock for a 64-42 victory on Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.
The Mountain Cats received scoring contributions from a season-high 10 different players on their way to improving to 12-5 (7-4 PSAC). The defense was also a bright spot, holding the Rock to their lowest scoring output of the season on 27.7% (13 of 47) shooting.
Senior Olivia Fasick recorded 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. Senior Peyton Alazaus collected eight points and now needs just 17 points to surpass 1,000 for her career. Hayden Taylor added seven points, while Kylah Franklin provided six. Riley Childress chipped in six points, four rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes off the bench.
Pitt-Johnstown never trailed after a layup by Childress and a 3-pointer from Alazaus made it 14-7 after one. The Mountain Cats led by as many as 12 in the second quarter before taking a 27-22 lead into the break.
The most significant difference in the second half became the turnover differential. The Mountain Cats forced 20 Slippery Rock turnovers and racked up 28 points off those miscues. They also dominated on the inside outscoring the Rock by a sizable 36-12 margin in the paint.
The Mountain Cats extended their lead with a suffocating third quarter where they limited Slippery Rock to just seven points. Through the first nine minutes, Pitt-Johnstown had a 17-4 rally going that was capped by a 3-pointer from Taylor that made it 44-26.
Regan Atkins produced a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds for Slippery Rock, which slipped to 1-12 (1-9 PSAC).
Pitt-Johnstown visits California (Pa.) on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
