The Pitt-Johnstown men's track and field team proved it was up to the challenge when the program wrapped up the regular-season at Shippensburg's Paul Kaiser Classic on Saturday.
Two separate relay teams shined in back-to-back events for the Mountain Cats. The first team composed of Hunter Johnson, Cristian Thornton, Marcello Legister and Michael Ifidon finished runner-up in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 43.04 seconds. Ifidon was also seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.65 seconds.
Thornton then joined Blake Lauper, Noah Lee and Damian Blum on the 4x400 meter relay team that also seized a second-place honor after checking in at 3:23.57. Earlier in the day, Thornton placed 15th in the 200-meter dash at 23.02 seconds.
That success spilled out into other events beginning with Johnson, who nabbed a fourth-place finish out of 33 competitors in the long jump after leaping 6.80 meters. Ryan Porch wasn't far behind at 6.68 meters to take seventh, while Cyrus Lyghts was 14th at 6.19 meters.
John Yahner claimed fifth in the pole vault at 3.90 meters. Noah Ser leaped 1.88 meters in the high jump to tie eight others for sixth place at 1.88 meters. Isaiah Dyer rounded out the top performances in the field events after finishing sixth (12.70 meters) in the triple jump.
Nicholas Kelly enjoyed the highest finish in a track event, a second-place mark in the 3K Steeple with a time of 10:21.66. Lee and Lauper were 11th and 12th place, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
A select number of Pitt-Johnstown competitors who qualified will compete in the 2024 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Friday through Sunday at Shippensburg University.
