Five different Mountain Cats scored goals, and
Jaeger James collected two assists, to help lift the Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team to a convincing, 5-1, non-conference victory over Central Penn College, Monday evening in Enola, Pa. The Mountain Cats evened their record at 3-3-0.
The Mountain Cats got off to a fast start and climbed out to, 2-0, halftime advantage.
Pitt-Johnstown, which outshot Central Penn, 12-1, and had nine shots on goal, in the opening half, took a 1-0 lead in the 15
th minute on
Noah Pawling's first collegiate goal off of an assist from James.
James picked-up his second assist of the night when
Alexzander Toto beat Knights' goalkeeper Jose Hurtado with his first goal of the year 10 minutes later to make put the Mountain Cats in front, 2-0 at the break.
Central Penn cut the deficit in half in the 65
th minute on a Donnie Powell goal,
However, the Mountain Cats struck for three goals in the final nine minutes to pull away.
Jack Moyer scored in the 81
st minute to get the lead back out to a pair, before
Anson Portzline minute pushed it out to 4-1 four minutes.
Pitt-Johnstown wasn't done yet and got an insurance goal from
Tristan Ralph with less than four minutes to play.
PJ Derksen earned the win in goal for the Mountain Cats after seeing just four shots, allowing one goal, and making two saves.
Hurtado took the loss for Central Penn. Hurtado faced 33 Pitt-Johnstown shots, allowed all five goals, and made a dozen saves.
With the loss, the Knights slipped to 6-2.
The Mountain Cats wrap up its non-conference schedule with a home match against Washington Adventist on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Windber Stadium, before traveling to Lock Haven to begin PSAC West-play on Oct. 2.
