Four Mountain Cats made history on Friday afternoon when they competed in Pitt-Johnstown's first ever varsity men's and women's swim meet in Pidgeon Natatorium at the Indiana (PA) Crimson Hawk Invitational.
Pitt-Johnstown added men's and women's swimming as a varsity for this season and the team are expected to compete in nearly 10 events through the year.
"This is our first swim meet ever in the history of The University of Pittsburgh Johnstown Swimming," Head Coach
Kile Zeller said. "We are super pumped to have our team compete in these swim meets. A big Thank You to the IUP swim coaches for all their support with getting our team started and being able to attend these meets."
On the men's side,
Mark DiPalma finished fourth in the 200-Meter I.M. (2:06.51), eighth in the 100-Meter Backstroke (58.68), and 11
th in the 200-Meter Freestyle (1:53.60), while
Nick Truschel was 12
th in the 200-Meter I.M. (2:39.34) and 13
th in the 100-Meter Breaststroke (1:13.08).
Nicole Scott paced the Mountain Cat women by finishing 11
th in both the 100-Meter Butterfly (1:03.42) and 200-Meter I.M. (2:21.83) and 16
th in the 100-Meter Backstroke. Teammate
Allison Arendas was 19
th in the 100-Meter Backstroke (1:10.70) and 20
th in the 100-Meter Butterfly (1:11.16).
Pitt-Johnstown will travel to Lock Haven next Friday and Shippensburg on Oct. 18 for dual meets, before going to the Youngstown State (OH) Fall Invitational, Nov. 20-22.
