No. 3/6 Wrestlers Open Home Schedule With dominating 32-10 Win Over No. 16/9 Ashland

Hoover, TrentVance, IsaiahThe No. 3/6-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers took advantage of falls from No. 18 Trent Hoover (165 lbs.)  and top-ranked Isaiah Vance (285 lbs.) and three wins by technical fall to make Friday's home opener in the Sports Center a good one with a 32-10 victory over No. 19/6 Ashland.  The Mountain Cats are now 2-0.
 
Top-ranked Trevon Gray got the Mountain Cats going with a 7-3 decision over No. 10/12 Luke Acuna at 125 lbs., but Pitt-Johnstown was deducted a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct and led 2-0.
 
Ashland answered with a 12-9 sudden victory from Donovan Paes over 15th-ranked Tyson Cook to take a one-point lead, but Pitt-Johnstown followed with an 11-4 win from Chad Ozias over Rylen Campbell at 141 lbs., and No. 9/11 Matt Sarbo dealt Brock Durbin an 18-2 technical fall loss at 5:52 in the bout at 149 lbs. to give the Mountain Cats a 10-3 advantage.
 
Pitt-Johnstown continued to add on.  At 157 lbs., No. 15/17 Cooper Warshel made it two straight tech fall wins when he defeated Mack Allen 21-6 at 2:52, before Hoover pinned Gavin Nelson :52 into the opening period to extend the lead to 21-3.
 
After true freshman Ty Morrison beat Hayden Flynn 20-1 at 6:15 at 174 lbs. to record the Mountain Cats' third tech fall of the night, the Eagles picked up wins at 184 and 197 lbs.
 
Fletcher Rose, ranked 14th at 184 lbs., won a 17-4 major decision over Teague Conover at 184 lbs., and No. 14/17 Peyton Lemon held of 13th-ranked Brad Morrison to make it 27-10 with one bout remaining.
 
Vance closed out the Mountain Cat victory with an exclamation point by pinning No. 9/19 Wyatt Bailey at 3:43 to set the final 32-10.
 
With the loss, Ashland slipped to 1-1.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC match against Shippensburg on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before competing in the 2025 Midwest Classic in Indianapolis on Dec. 13-14.
