Men’s and Women’s Swim Teams Fare Well at Youngstown State Fall Invitational

The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's swimming teams boasted a very strong performance at the three-day Youngstown State (OH) University Fall Invitational.

Day 1 (Nov. 20)
All five swimmers swam well in the morning in preliminaries and qualified for finals.  Nicole Scott dropped over half a second in her 200 IM to take 16th in finals with a time of 2:20.48.  Mark DiPalma had a huge four second drop to take 10th in finals with a time of 2:01.42 in the 200 Individual Medley.  Maddie Barrick had the Mountain Cats' highest place of the day with a fourth-place finish in the 50 Breaststroke, clocking in a time of 33.16 and putting Pitt-Johnstown on the scoreboard by scoring the most points of the day.  Allison Arendas finished sixth in the 50 Breaststroke racking up some points for the Mountain Cats with a time of 35.54.  Nick Truschel had a very strong 50 Breaststroke dropping 1.4 seconds with a time of 31.59 taking 10th place for the Mountain Cats.

Day 1 (Nov. 20) Women's Swimming:
Nicole Scott
200 Individual Medley: Placed 17th in preliminaries with a time of 2:21.13 and made finals.  Finished 16th in finals with a time of 2:20.48.
50 Freestyle: Placed 25th in preliminaries with a time of 26.65.
 
Allison Arendas
50 Breaststroke: Placed 6th in preliminaries with a time of 34.95 and made finals.  Finished 6th in finals with a time of 35.54.
50 Freestyle: Placed 24th in preliminaries with a time of 26.49.
 
Maddie Barrick
50 Breaststroke: Placed 4th in preliminaries with a time of 33.28 and made finals.  Finished 4th in finals with a time of 33.16.
50 Freestyle: Placed 27th in preliminaries with a time of 26.85
 
Day 1 (Nov. 20) Men's Swimming:
Nick Truschel
50 Breaststroke: Placed 10th in preliminaries with a time of 32.94 and made finals.  Finished 10th in finals with a time of 31.59.
50 Freestyle: Placed 29th in preliminaries with a time of 28.00.
 
Mark DiPalma
200 Individual Medley: Placed 11th in preliminaries with a time of 2:05.63 and made finals.  Finished 10th in finals with a time of 2:01.42.
50 Freestyle: Placed 22nd in preliminaries with a time of 22.99.
 
Day 2 (Nov. 21)
Mark DiPalma made Mountain Cat History by being our first swimmer ever to qualify for the PSAC Championships!  DiPalma swam a 1:46.89 in the 200 Freestyle to get under the PSAC qualifying time by over 2 seconds.  All five swimmers had solid swims in the morning and made it back for finals with most of them swimming better and dropping more time in finals.  DiPalma had our highest finish in finals, taking seventh in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:46.51.  He also placed 11th in finals with a 55.94 in the 100 Backstroke.  Nicole Scott finished 11th in finals for the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:02.29 and finished 12th in finals in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:04.12.  Allison Arendas placed 14th in finals in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:05.07 and finished 14th in the 100 Backstroke in finals with a time of 1:06.74.  Maddie Barrick dropped a half second in finals with a solid 100 Breaststroke finishing 14th with a time of 1:13.90.  Nick Truschel dropped a 2.4 seconds from preliminaries to finals in his 100 Breaststroke and placed 15th at 1:09.82.   
 
Day 2 (Nov. 21) Women's Swimming
Nicole Scott
100 Butterfly: Placed 12th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:02.09.  Finals placed 11th with a time of 1:02.29.
100 Backstroke: Placed 14th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:03.66.  Finals placed 12th with a time of 1:04.12.
 
Allison Arendas
100 Butterfly: Placed 14th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:04.60.  Placed 14th in finals with a time of 1:05.07.
100 Backstroke: Placed 16th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:06.15.  Placed 14th in finals with a time of 1:06.74.
 
Maddie Barrick
100 Breaststroke: Placed 14th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:14.41.  Placed 14th in finals with a time of 1:13.90.
 
(Day 2 (Nov. 21) Men's Swimming
Nick Truschel
100 Breaststroke: Placed 15th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:12.26.  Placed 15th in finals with a time of 1:09.82.
 
Mark DiPalma
200 Freestyle: Placed 8th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:46.89.  Placed 7th in finals with a time of 1:46.51.
100 Backstroke: Placed 13th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 56.42.  Placed 11th in finals with a time of 55.94.
 
Day 3 (Nov. 22)
Saturday night at finals was rock solid for the Mountain Cat swimmers!  Nick Truschel had a fast 100 IM dropping over 1 second from preliminaries and finishing third with a 1:09.60 in finals.  Maddie Barrick swam a solid 50 Butterfly and placed four with a time of 29.72.  Allison Arendas had a fast 50 Butterfly and placed third at  28.59.  Mark DiPalma finished 11th in finals with a time of 49.03 for the 100 Freestyle.  Nick Truschel finished 14th in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:44.31.
 
Day 3 (Nov. 22) Women's Swimming

100 Individual Medley: Placed 3rd in preliminaries with a time of 1:07.02.  Did not swim finals.
 
Allison Arendas
50 Butterfly: Placed 3rd in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 29.36.  Placed 3rd in finals with a time of 28.59.
100 Freestyle: Placed 21st in preliminaries with a time of 59.03.
 
Maddie Barrick
50 Butterfly: Placed 4th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 29.62.  Placed 4th in finals with a time of 29.72.
100 Freestyle: Placed 20th in preliminaries with a time of 58.95.
 
Nick Truschel
100 Individual Medley: Placed 7th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 1:10.70.  Placed 3rd in finals with a time of 1:09.60.
200 Breaststroke: Placed 15th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 2:44.67.  Placed 14th in finals with a time of 2:44.31.
 
Mark DiPalma
100 Freestyle: Placed 14th in preliminaries and made finals with a time of 49.21.  Placed 11th in finals with a time of 49.03.

Pitt-Johnstown will break until after the holidays when the travel to the Indiana (PA) Pidgeon Memorial Invitational and Fast Chance Invitational on Jan. 17.
