Mountain Cats Finish 6th at Malone-Glenmoor Invitational

The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team opened the fall portion of its season with a 6th place finish in the Malone-Glenmoor Invitational at Glenmoor Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.

The Mountain Cats shot a 908 (+44), which included rounds of 309, 298 and 301, to finish three strokes ahead of Kentucky Wesleyan.

In his first outing, freshman Grayden Laird, playing as an individual, tied six other players for 4th place with a 4-over 220.

Eli Ropietski topped Pitt-Johnstown with a 6-over 222, good enough to tie him with two other players for 14th place. Mauricio Hernandez tied two other players for 33rd place after shooting a 15-over 231.

Griffin Hansberry and Lucas Smith, who is coming off a PSAC Freshman of the Year honor, were not far behind, sharing a tie for 37th place after they each recorded a 17-over 233. Giovanni Vezza finished in 45th following a 21-over 237.

Hillsdale claimed the team championship with an 11-over 875. Hillsdale's Robert Thompson took home the individual title with an 8-under 208.

Pitt-Johnstown will have two weeks off before competing in the California's Hannastown Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 22-23 at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg.
