The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team captured both the individual and team championships at California's Hannastown Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg.
The Mountain Cats' top five posted a combined score of 23-over 863 over three rounds, beating second-place finisher California (Pa.) by nine strokes to claim their third team title in program history.
Freshman Griffin Hansberry secured the individual title with a 2-under 208 and was the only player in the field to finish under-par. He edged California's Gavin Goodrich by four strokes.
Mauricio Hernandez, who was even through two rounds playing as an individual, also notched a top-five finish, taking fifth-place with a 4-over 214. Eli Ropietski wasn't far behind in eighth-place after shooting a 7-over 217.
Freshman Grayden Laird shot a 10-over 220 to tie one other player for 10th place. David Razinskas turned in a 15-over 225 and tied three others for 17th place. Freshman Giovanni Vezza followed closely behind in 21st place with a 16-over 226.
Jack Millard (Unattached), playing as an independent, scored a 17-over 227 to tie for 27th place.
The Mountain Cats led the 15-team field with 39 birdies and two eagles. They finished third in total pars with 149, behind only California (Pa.) and Indiana (Pa.).
The Mountain Cats will host the Pitt-Johnstown Sunnehanna Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30 at Sunnehanna Country Club in Westmont.Â
