BLACKSBURG, Va. — Pitt-Johnstown fired a 26-over par 602 over the first two rounds to top the seven-team field after day one of the Appalachian Collegiate on Monday at Blacksburg Country Club.
Giovanna Vezza set the pace for the Mountain Cats, shooting a 2-over 74 in each of the two rounds to end the day tied for fourth place out of 47 players.
Eli Ropietski sits tied with two other players for eighth place after firing 1-under 71 in the first round and a 7-over 79 in the second.
Grayden Laird shot a 5-over 77 in the first round before improving with a 3-over 75 in round two to finish in a tie for 12th place with four other players. One of those players was Mauricio Hernandez, who logged a 3-over 75 in round one and a 5-over 77 in round two.
Mark Yan, playing as an independent, is also tied for 12th. Lucas Smith recorded rounds of 5-over 77 and 10-over 82 to sit in 32nd.
Meanwhile, Pitt-Johnstown's B squad resides just four strokes back in second place. David Razinskas has led the charge thus far with an even-par 72 and a 1-over 73 to end the opening day in second place just one stroke behind Virginia Tech's Balthazar Duclos.
Tyler Mocello carded a pair of rounds at 5-over 77 to pull into a tie for 18th place with two other players. Parker Hilchey is only one stroke behind in 21st place at 11-over par.
Dom Cerilli carded an 8-over 80 and a 4-over 76 and resides tied for 23rd with three others. Griffin Hansberry is tied for 27th at 13-over par.
The Mountain Cats will wrap up the two-day tournament on Tuesday.
