WHEELING, W.Va. — The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team recorded 20-over par 588 over two rounds to finish seventh in the 17-team field at Wheeling University's MEC Spring Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday at Oglebay Resort.
Glenville State claimed the team title with a 4-under par 564, eight strokes better than California (Pa.).
Eli Ropietski enjoyed the highest individual finish for the Mountain Cats, tying two others for seventh place after shooting an even-par 142.
Senior Mauricio Hernandez was two strokes off that pace with a 2-over 144 that tied him for 10th with four other players following a 3-under par 69 to wrap up the tournament.
Fresh off of an individual victory at the Appalachian Collegiate late last month, junior David Razinskas tied five others for 31st with a 7-over 149, which included a 1-under 71 in the second round.
Freshman Dom Cerilli shot a 12-over 154 to tie for 60th, while fellow classmate Griffin Hansberry was just one stroke behind at 13-over 155 to round out Pitt-Johnstown's top five and place him into a tie for 65th with three others.
Mark Yan, who played as an independent, fired an 8-over par 150 to tie four other players for 37th out of the 99 players who competed.
Pitt-Johnstown will compete in IUP's Cecil C. Spadafora on April 14-15 at Indiana Country Club.
