Kayla DeCriscio knocked down a pair of free-throws with 17 seconds left to help the Lady Cats hold off a furious Kutztown University rally and lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 72-70 victory, Wednesday evening in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats improved to 4-6 on the season.

The Lady Cats, who never trailed, jumped out to a 12-4 early lead on
Leah Hansen's 3-pointer, but Advia Campbell's jumper narrowed Kutztown's deficit to four with eight minutes left in the first half.

Pitt-Johnstown answered right back with a 19-7 run over the next seven minutes to build the lead to 16 on Hansen's long 3-pointer and free-throw, before the Golden Bears scored the next four to make it 39-27 at the half.

The Lady Cats came out in the second half and extended it to 18 at the 16:41 mark on two
Jasmine Harper free-throws.

That's when Kutztown mounted its comeback. The Golden Bears used a 21-4 run, capped by Alyssa Bonenberger's bucket- to get to within three eight minutes later.

DeCriscio's 3-pointer pushed the Lady Cat lead back to nine with 5:42 to play, but Kutztown battled all the way back to knot it at 70 on Jenna Altomare's 3-pointer with 21 seconds left.

However, DeCriscio hit the two late free-throws and Pitt-Johnstown was able to hold on for the two-point victory.

Hansen scored a game-high 20 points and dished out six assists, and Harper had a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds to pace Pitt-Johnstown. Â DeCriscio finished with 11 points, while
Kelsey Sleighter and
Nicole Carman each netted 10 points for the Lady Cats.

Rachel Johnson pulled down six rebounds to move into 24
th-place with 504. Johnson needs 11 rebounds to tie Jody Billingsley (1990-94) for 23
rd on the list.

The Lady Cats ended the evening shooting 41.8% (23-55) from the field, 8-21 from 3-point range, and 18-24 from the free-throw line. Kutztown shots just 37.8% (28-74) from the floor and just 3-8 from behind the 3-point line. The golden Bears, who were out-rebounded 45-38, were also 11-15 from the charity stripe.

Bonenberger scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Altomare added 10 points to lead Kutztown, which slipped to 5-4.

The Lady Cats close out the first semester at Mansfield University on Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown will then open the second semester with road games at Lock Haven and Bloomsburg on January 3 and 4, before hosting a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against East Stroudsburg on January 8.
