Baseball Splits WVIAC Twinbill at Fairmont State

After suffering an 11-0 loss to open a WVIAC doubleheader at Fairmont State (WV) University on Saturday, Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) and Patrick Hall (Seward, Pa.) hit back-to-back homeruns in the nightcap to help the Mountain Cats earn the split with a 6-5 victory. Pitt-Johnstown is now 7-11 overall and 3-3 in the WVIAC Northern Division.
In game one, Tyler Kinkaid tossed a five-hit complete-game shutout to lead Fairmont State to an 11-0 win. The Falcons built a 3-0 lead off of Mountain Cat starter Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) after two innings, before exploding for eight runs in the third.
Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.), Jake Warner (Dillsburg, Pa.), Kyle Morrow (McVeytown, Pa.), Drew Ebersole (Martinsburg, Pa.), and Campanella all had one hit for Pitt-Johnstown.
Shaulis surrendered 11 runs on 12 hits in 2.1 innings of work and slipped to 3-2. Rylan Schnably (Bedford, Pa.) pitched the final 3.2 innings and and didn't allow a run.
In game two, Andy Leach's three-run homerun in the third inning gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead. Pitt-Johnstown answered with four runs in the sixth, highlighted by back-to-back blasts from Campanella and Hall, to put the Mountain Cats up 6-3. Fairmont State cut it to 6-5 with single runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, but Alex Naggy (Greensburg, Pa.) stranded the tying run at third to preserve the win.
Campanella went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored, while Hall was also 3-for-4 with a homerun, two RBI and two runs. Zach Vignero (Johnstown, Pa.) added an RBI single.
John Fees (Carrolltown, Pa.) earned the win to improve to 3-1 after allowing four runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings. Naggy gave up one run in the seventh, but picked-up his third save of the season.
With the split, the Falcons are 2-14 overall and 2-7 in the WVIAC North.
The Mountain Cats finish a WVIAC series at Fairmont State (WV) University on Sunday, before going to Ohio Valley (WV) University on March 29 for another WVIAC doubleheader.
