Baseball Hammers Mercy in Florida

Matt McMillen (Johnstown, Pa.) had two hits and drove in three runs, and Ryan Socol (Pittsburgh, Pa.) pitched five strong innings to lead the Mountain Cats to a 13-2 victory over Mercy (NY) College in Thursday's late game in Fort Pierce, Fla. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 6-5.
Along with McMillen, Nate Sabados (DuBois, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI, while Joe Galbraith (Brookville, Pa.) had two doubles and drove in two. Zach Vignero (Johnstown, Pa.) collected two hits and an RBI, while Drew Westover (Flinton, Pa.) and Kyle Morrow (McVeytown, Pa.) each finished with two hits.
Socol tossed fived innings and allowed two runs (1 earned) on three hits, while walking two and striking out three to improve to 2-0. Billy Beard (Altoona, Pa.) pitched three scoreless innings and fanned three.
The Mountain Cats close out their spring trip in Florida with a WVIAC doubleheder against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday. Pitt-Johnstown will then return home to host a conference doubleheader against West Virginia State University on Tuesday at the Point Stadium.
