Baseball Earns Sweep at Davis & Elkins

Seth Roy (Bedford, Pa.) collected three hits in the opener, and Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) added three hits, including a double and a homerun, in the nightcap to lead the Mountain Cats to a 9-3 and 13-5 sweep at Davis & Elkins (WV) College, Saturday afternoon.  Pitt-Johnstown improved to 27-16. 
     In the opener, Roy went 3-for-4, while Zach Martin (Irwin, Pa.) and Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) each had two hits, including a double.  Martin drove in three and Rubal had a pair of RBI.  Matt Whiteman (North Huntingdon, Pa.) had two hits and two RBI, and Drew Westover (Flinton, Pa.) chipped in two hits and an RBI. 
     Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) raised his record to 7-1 after allowing three runs on six hits in four innings of work.  Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) tossed the final three innings and held Davis & Elkins to no runs on just one hit to collect his fifth save of the season. 
     The Mountain Cats completed the sweep with a 13-5 victory in game two behind Demek's 3-for-4 performance.  Demek singled, doubled and belted a solo homer.  Roy and Rubal each had two hits and an RBI, while Whiteman and Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) each had RBI doubles. 
     Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) got the win and improved to 5-1.  Staub pitched five innings and surrendered two runs and scattered seven hits.
     With the sweep, the Senators dropped to 25-23.
 
     The Mountain Cats return home to celebrate Senior Day and wrap-up the 2010 regular season against Davis & Elkins on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium.   Pitt-Johnstown will then open the 2010 WVIAC Tournament against West Virginia State Unviersity on Thursday at noon at the Point Stadium.
