Mountain Cats Split With Northwood in Florida

Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) and Seth Roy (Bedford, Pa.) each drove in two runs to highlight a five-run ninth inning in Pitt-Johnstown's 5-0 victory over Northwood (FL) University in Sunday's doubleheader opener in Fort Pierce, Fla. Northwood earned the split with a 10-0 win in game two. Pitt-Johnstown is now 1-3.
Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) went 3-for-4, while Roy had two hits and two RBI and Shaulis had a two-run single in the 5-0 win. Mike McDermott (Nanty-Glo, Pa.) pitched two innings in reilef to collect the win. McDermott gave up just one hit and struck out one. Alex Naggy (Greensburg, Pa.) started and pitched seven scoreless innings. Naggy scattered seven hits and struck out four.
In the nightcap, Mangini added two more hits in three at-bats. Matt Whiteman (North Huntingdon, Pa.) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in three innings-pitched. Whiteman walked one and fanned five.
Pitt-Johnstown continues its Spring Trip in Florida with a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College on Monday at 10 a.m., before playing a doubleheader against Mercy (NY) College on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
