Mountain Cats Sweep Chestnut Hill;Coach Williams Gets Win No. 300

Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) pitched a complete-game, five-hitter in the opener to give Head Coach Todd Williams his 300th career-victory, and Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) collected five hits and drove in three runs to help the Mountain Cats sweep Chestnut Hill College, 10-4 and 8-5, Tuesday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Fla. Pitt-Johnstown evened its record at 3-3.
In Tuesday's opener, Pitt-Johnstown scored six runs in the second inning to erase a 2-1 deficit en route to the 10-4 victory. Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs, while Barbera had two hits, an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) drove in three and Matt Whiteman (North Huntingdon, Pa.) collected two RBI. Moore scattered five hits and struck out seven in the complete-game win.
In game two, the Mountain Cats scored two runs in the third and five in the fourth to complete the sweep with an 8-5 win. Barbera was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Mangini, Staub, Whiteman and Drew Westover (Flinton, Pa.) all had an RBI. Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) pitched the first four innings and gave up four runs on eight hits to secure the win. Mike McDermott (Nanty-Glo, Pa.) tossed three scoreless innings and fanned three in relief to earn the save.
Pitt-Johnstown wraps-up its Spring Trip in Florida with a doubleheader against Mercy (NY) College on Wednesday at 10 a.m., before traveling to Concord (WV) University for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
