Mountain Cats Drop Two to End Spring Trip

The Mountain Cats got solid pitching performances from starters Joe Novotny (Johnstown, Pa.) and Paul Tunink (Indiana, Pa.), but the Pitt-Johnstown bats struggled in 4-2 and 5-2 losses to Mercy (NY) College on Wednesday to wrap-up the Spring Trip in Fort Pierce, Fla. The Mountain Cats slipped to 3-5.
In game one, Novotny surrendered three runs on seven hits in four innings of work to suffer the 4-2 loss. Novotny also walked two and struck out three. Matt Whiteman (North Huntingdon, Pa.) tripled and scored a run for Pitt-Johnstown.
In the nightcap, Tunink allowed three runs on four hits in four innings-pitched in the 5-2 setback. He walked two and fanned four. Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) doubled, while Eddie Sotirokis (Beford, Pa.) and Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) drove in one run each.
Pitt-Johnstown is scheduled to travel to Concord (WV) University for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, before hosting a doubleheader against Clarion University on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Johnstown's Point Stadium.
