Mountain Cats Sweep Twinbill at Fairmont State, 22-9 and 7-5

Freshman outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) hit two homeruns and drove in eight runs, and junior first basebman Bill Colosimo (Summerhiss, Pa.) added a grand slam and six RBI's to lead the Mountain Cat baseball team to a 22-9 win in game one of a doubleheader at Fairmont State (WV) University on Saturday. Head Coach Todd William's team completed the sweep and improved to 16-8 on the season with a 7-5 sweep in the nightcap.
Hanley, who finished 4-for-4, now has five homeruns on the season, while Colosimo hit his first career homerun and ended game one 3-for-4. Senior third baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) belted a two-run homer and junior catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) collected two hits in the 22-9 win. Sophomore right hander Zach Toth (Sarver, Pa.) struck out five in six innings of work to improve to 4-0.
In game two, Long smacked a two run homrun, giving him a team best 11 homers on the year, and senior catcher Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.) chipped in a solo homerun to lead the Mountain Cats to a 7-5 victory. Junior outfielder Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) was 3-for 4. Freshman right hander Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) raised his record to 2-1 after striking out 12 Fighting Falcons' hitters in 6.1 innings on the mound. Boring now leads Pitt Johnstown with 28 strikeouts in 19 innings-pitched.
With the sweep, Fairmont State dropped to 12-21.
The Mountain Cats will host a doubleheader against Fairmont State to open the 2006 home schedule on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at George R. Walter Field.
