Baseball Sweeps Wheeling Jesuit in WVIAC Play

The Mountain Cat baseball team improved to 22-10 overall and 5-5 in the WVIAC with a 7-6 and 7-1 sweep over Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Saturday afternoon at the Point Stadium. Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) and Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) each had two hits in the opener, before Ben Watkins (Johnstown, Pa.) tossed an eight-hit, complete-game to lead Pitt-Johnstown in the nightcap.
In game one, Barbera and Hanley each had a double and a triple. Barbera drove in two runs, and Hanley added an RBI. Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) picked-up the win to improve to 5-1. Faint pitched the final 1.1 innings and didn't allow a run on two hits. Alex Naggy (Greensburg, Pa.) pitched 2.1 innings in relief of starter Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) and gave up one run on two hits. Fleck worked the first three innings and surrendered one run on three hits, while fanning four.
In game two, Watkins raised his record to 4-1 with his second complete-game of the year. Watkins scattered eight hits and allowed just one run. Watkins also struck out nine. Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.), Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) and Hanley all collected two hits and an RBI.
With the losses, Wheeling Jesuit fell to 3-22 overall and 0-6 in the WVIAC.
