Mountain Cats Sweep West Liberty State on Senior Day

The Mountain Cat baseball team celebrated Senior Day with a 20-1 and 7-0 WVIAC Northern Division sweep over West Liberty State (WV) College, Saturday afternoon at the Point Stadium. In the opener, Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) belted a three-run homerun and drove in seven. In game two, Ben Watkins (Tire Hill, Pa.) fanned 13 in six innings to help Pitt-Johnstown earn the sweep and improve to 26-12 overall and 8-6 in conference play.
In game one, the Mountain Cats banged out 15 hits and built a 19-0 lead after four innings in the 20-1 victory. Campanella was 3-for-4 with a homerun, seven RBI and three runs, while Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) had two hits, including a grand slam in the third inning. Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) collected three hits, drove in one and scored three times. Pitt-Johnstown also got two hits and three runs from Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) and two RBI from Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.).
Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) pitched five scoreless innings and scattered three hits to improve to 5-1. Fleck also struck out eight.
In the nightcap, the Mountain Cats scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings and added three more in the fourth inning in the 7-0 shutout. Watkins improved to 6-1 after giving up three hits an no runs in six innings of work. Watkins also fanned 13.
Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) had two hits and two RBI, and Rubal had a two-run triple.
With the losses, West Liberty State dropped to 5-24 overall and 0-8 in the WVIAC North.
Between games of the doubleheader, Head Coach Todd Williams and the Mountain Cat baseball program recognized this year's seniors, Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.), Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.), Josh Farabaugh (Altoona, Pa.), Hanley, Mike Jewart (Natrona Heights, Pa.), Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.), Bill Wasko (Bethel Park, Pa.) and Watkins.
The Mountain Cats travel to Fairmont State (WV) University on Wednesday and to Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College to play Bluefield State (WV) College on Saturday and the Battlers on Sunday.
