Mountain Cats Sweep Bluefield State, 7-2 and 10-2

Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) belted a pair of homeruns to lead the Mountain Cats to a 7-2 win in Saturday's doubleheader opener against Bluefield State (WV) College in Philippi, WV. Pitt-Johnstown completed the sweep with a 10-2 victory in the nightcap behind six scoreless innings from Ben Watkins (Tire Hill, Pa.). The Mountain Cats are 28-12 and ranked #8 in this week's NCAA Atlantic Region rankings.
In game one, Hanley went 2-for-4 with two homers and four RBI. Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) had two hits and an RBI, while Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) added two hits in four at-bats. Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) earned the win and improved to 6-1 after surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings-pitched. Fleck also walked one and struck out five.
In game two, Watkins allowed just two hits and no runs in six innings to raise his record to 6-1. Watkins walked one and fanned five. Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) hit a two-run homerun, and Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) added a solo homer in the 10-2 win. Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
With the losses, Bluefield State dropped to 12-25 on the year.
The Mountain Cats will play a doubleheader at Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Sunday, before breaking for finals week.
