Baseball Drops Two at Alderson-Broaddus

Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) had three hits, including a homerun, and Drew Westover (Flinton, Pa.) belted a two-run homer, but the Mountain Cats dropped a doubleheader at Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College 10-8 and 6-4, Sunday afternoon. Pitt-Johnstown is now 28-14.
In game one, Barbera went 3-for-5 with a homerun and two RBI, and Westover had two hits, including a two-run homer. Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) and Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) each had two hits. Sophomore right-hander Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) got the start, but got just one out. Moore surrendered four runs (2 earned runs) three hits. Mike Jewart (Natrona Heights, Pa.) pitched two innings and gave up three runs on seven hits. Jewart took the loss and fell to 1-2.
In the nightcap, Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Hanley had two more hits and an RBI. Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) and Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) drove in a run each. Staub (2-4) suffered the loss after giving up three runs on five hits in 1.2 innings in relief of starter Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.). Shaulis tossed the first 2.1 innings and gave up three runs on five hits.
With the sweep, Alderson-Broaddus improved to 24-12.
The Mountain Cats, who are breaking for finals week, are scheduled to host West Liberty State (WV) College on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
