03/10/2007

Head Coach Todd Williams' and the Mountain Cat baseball team opened up its first WVIAC conference series with an 11-10 and 4-2 sweep at Bluefield State (WV) College on Saturday. With the sweep, Pitt Johnstown improved to 4-6 on the season and 2-0 in the WVIAC.
In Saturday's opener, sophomore outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) went 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBI, while senior outfielder Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) and junior shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) each went 3-for-5. Junior second baseman Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) added two hits in the 11-10 win.
In game two, senior right hander Zach Stere (Bellwood, Pa.) earned the win, while sophomore Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) picked-up his second save of the season. Offensively, freshman catcher Justin Demek's (Cabot, Pa.) solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie. Turka then drove in two runs to secure the 4-2 victory. Senior first baseman Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.) and Gallaher also had two hits apiece.
