Coach Williams Wins #200 as Mountain Cats Sweep Slippery Rock

Head Coach Todd Williams earned career victories #200 and #201 as the Mountain Cats, ranked #9 in the NCBWA North Atlantic Regional polls, picked up a pair of 5-4 wins over North Athlantic Region #4 Slippery Rock University Thursday afternoon at George R. Walter Field. The Mountain Cats are now 22-12.
Freshman right hander Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) struckout seven and gave up just four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings of work to improve to3-1. Fellow freshman Garrett Pampiks (Gibsonia, Pa.) got The Rock's Chris Tolliver to pop out to third base for the last out of the gmae for his second career save. Sophomore shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's , while junior outfielder Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) drove in two runs. Senior catcher Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.) had two hits and an RBI, and junior designated hitter Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) added two hits, including a double.
In game two, sophomore right hander Zach Toth (Sarver, Pa.) tossed a complete game and improved to 5-1. Toth gave up just two earned runs on four hits and struckout four. Freshman outfielder Matt Hanley (Dellmont, Pa.) had two hits and two RBI, while Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.), Turka and Mearkle all drove in runs.
After the sweep, Slippery Rock fell to 21-11.
The Mountain Cats host a doubleheader against Concord (WV) University on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at George R. Walter Field.
