03/11/2007

After sweeping a doubleheader from Bluefield State (WV) University to open the WVIAC conference schedule on Saturday, Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cats split a pair of games with Bluefield State on Sunday. Pitt Johnstown dropped game one, 7-6, before taking game two, 7-6. The Mountain Cats are 5-7 overall and 3-1 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown took a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning in game one, but sophomore right hander Garrett Pampiks (Gibsonia, Pa.) was unable to close the door. Pampiks surrendered four runs and the Mountain Cats fell, 7-6. Mountain Cat starter David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) gave up just five hits and three unearned runs in five innings-pitched, but got a no-decision. Senior first baseman Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.) collected three hits in four at-bats and drove in a run, while junior second baseman Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) and senior catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) each had two hits and an RBI.
In game two, sophomore outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) had two hits, including a three-run homerun and freshman infielder Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) had three hits, including a double. Colosimo collected two more hits. Sophomore left hander Bill Wasko (Bethel Park, Pa.) earned the win after pitching five solid innings. Freshman Andrew deBethune (St. Albans, ME) picked-up his first collegiate save.
With the loss, Bluefield State dropped to 5-15 overall and 1-7 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats visit Seton Hill University for a doubleheader on Wednesday, before traveling to the University of Charleston (WV) for a four-game conference series on Saturday and Sunday.
