Baseball Earns 11-1, 7-1 Sweep at West Virginia State

The Mountain Cat baseball team, ranked #9 in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America North Atlantic Region Poll, belted four homeruns in an 11-1 and 7-1 sweep at North Atlantic Region #3 West Virginia State University on Wednesday. With the sweep, Head Coach Todd Williams' team improved to 4-2.
In game one, Pitt Johnstown hit three homeruns and collected 11 hits in the 11-1 win. Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) went 2-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) and Erik Tuomisto (Northumberland, Pa.) also hit homeruns. Junior right hander Ben Watkins (Johnstown, Pa.) earned the win after giving up one run on two hits in 4.2 innings of work. Watkins also struck out three to improve to 1-0. Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) struck out five and didn't give up a hit in 2.1 innings to pick-up his first save of the year.
In Wednesday's nightcap, senior right hander David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) rasied his record to 2-0 after surrendering one run on two hits in five innings-pitched. Huey also fanned five. Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) hit a two-run homer and Plummer drove in a pair of runs to lead the Mountain Cats offensive attack.
West Virginia State slipped to 2-2.
The Mountain Cats travel to Fort Myers, FL for the annual Spring Trip from March 9-12. Pitt Johnstown will open the trip with a doubleheader against Post (CT) University on Sunday, before playing a doubleheader against Shippensburg University on Monday.
