Mountain Cats Swept at Home By Davis & Elkins

The Mountain Cat baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday when visiting Davis & Elkins (WV) College took a pair fo games from Pitt Johnstown at George R. Walter Field. The Senators took game one, 9-0, before completing the sweep with a 6-3 win in game two. Sophomore shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) hit a solo homerun for the Mountain Cats in the nightcap. Pitt Johnstown is now 24-14.
In game one, the Mountain Cats collected just four hits off of Davis & Elkins starter Ryan Flanigan in the 9-0 loss. Freshman right hander Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) gave up six runs (three earned runs) and nine hits in 5.2 innings of work and fell to 3-2. Boring also struckout three and walked one.
In game two, freshman outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) had two hits and an RBI, and Turka hit his fifth homerun of the year in the 6-3 loss. Sophomore right hander Zach Toth (Sarver, Pa.) fell to 5-2 after surrendering five runs (thre earned runs) and eight hits in 3.2 innings-pitched.
With the sweep, Davis & Elkins improved to 19-15 on the year.
The Mountain Cats host a doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, before traveling to Slippery Rock University on Thursday. Both doubleheaders will start at 1:00 p.m.
