Mountain Cats Drop Doubleheader to Shippensburg in Florida

The Mountain Cat baseball team slipped to 4-6 overall and 0-4 on the Spring Trip to Fort Pierce, FL, when Shippensburg University dealt Pitt Johnstown 5-0 and 5-2 losses on Monday. Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) collected three hits on the day for the Mountain Cats.
In the opener, Pitt Johnstown was able to get just one hit, a single by Campanella off of Red Raiders starter Matt Wright, and fell, 5-0. Wright tossed a complete-game and struckout 11 Pitt Johnstown hitters. Ben Watkins (Johnstown, Pa.) got the start for Pitt Johnstown and gave up two runs on six hits in four innigs of work. Watkins struckout three and walked one, but suffered the loss and dropped to 1-1. Junior right hander Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) pitched the final two innings and gave up three runs on three hits.
In game two, Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) surrendered four runs on five hits in five innings and took the loss. Boring, 0-2 on the year, fanned four and walked two. Sophomore Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) banged out three hits and drove in a run, while Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) and Erik Tuomisto (Northumberland, Pa.) each had two hits.
With the sweep, Shippensburg ran its win streak to eight straight games and improved to 9-7 on the season.
The Mountain Cats continue their Spring Trip in Fort Pierce, FL with doubleheaders against Mansfield University on Tuesday and Slippery Rock University on Wednesday.
