Baseball Drops Pair at Home to Alderson-Broaddus

The Mountain Cat baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped when visiting Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College swept a pair of games from Pitt Johnstown on Thursday at George R. Walter Field. The Battlers took game one, 5-3, before completing the sweep with an 8-2 victory in game two. Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cats slipped to 8-12.
In the opener, Pitt Johnstown jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Alderson-Broaddus scored a run in the third inning and two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to earn the win. Senior first baseman Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.) had two hits, while sophomore outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) hit a solo home run and drove in both Pitt Johnstown runs. Sophomore right hander Mike Jewart (Natrona Heights, Pa.) fell to 0-1 after giving up five runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
In game two, the Battlers climbed out to a 4-0 lead after two innigns and went on to the 8-2 win. Colosimo and freshman catcher Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) each had an RBI for the Mountain Cats, who were held to just six hits. Junior right hander Zach Toth (Sarver, Pa.) took the loss and dropped to 1-2. Toth surrendered four runs on 10 hits in four innings-pitched. Alderson-Broaddus banged out 15 hits and got a complete-game from Paul Day. Day gave up just six hits and struck out five.
With the sweep, the Battlers improved to 10-3 on the season.
The Mountain Cats host a four-game WVIAC conference series against Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday and Sunday. Both doubleheaders will start at 1:00 p.m.
