Baseball Ends Florida Trip By Splitting With Slippery Rock

After suffering a 5-2 loss to start Wednesday's doubleheader, Pitt Johnstown rebounded behind a three-hit and three RBI performance from Eddie Sotirokis (Bedford, Pa.) to earn an 8-6 win and a split with Slippery Rock University to wrap-up the Spring Trip to Florida. Junior Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) made two appearances and threw 4.2 innings in relief to help Pitt Johnstown improve to 6-8.
In Wednesday's opener, Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) and Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) each doubled, while Erik Tuomisto (Northumberland, Pa.) added an RBI double and Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) drove in a run. Sophomore left hander Tyler Zaremski (Bethel Park, Pa.) took the loss and dropped to 0-2 after giving up four runs on seven hits in four innings-pitched. Faint tossed two innings and gave up one run on one hit.
In the nightcap, Sotirokis went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead Pitt Johnstown to the 8-6 win. Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) had two hits and an RBI, and Petrowsky went 2-for-4 with a double. Freshman Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) won is first collegiate game after surrendering three runs on four hits in 4.1 innings of work. Faint pitched the final 2.3 innings to collect his first save of the year. Faint allowed just one hit and didn't give up a run in his second appearance of the day.
With the split, Slippery Rock is now 5-4 on the year.
The Mountain Cats travel to Bluefield State (WV) College for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, before maing their 2008 home debut with doubleheaders against Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22. Both home doubleheaders will start at 1:00 p.m.
