Mountain Cats Earn Road Sweep at Slippery Rock

Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cat baseball team made it a season sweep of North Atlantic Region #3-ranked Slippery Rock University with a 7-5 and 7-6 win at The Rock on Thursday. Pitt Johnstown, which also swept Slippery Rock at home last week, needed an Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) RBI double in the ninth inning to secure game one, before going onto the sweep. The Mountain Cats are now 28-14 and winners of four straight games.
Plummer finished game one 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while designated hitter Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) had two hits, including a three run homerun in the second inning, and four RBI's. Sophomore shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) belted his sixth homer of the season and scored a pair of runs. Freshman left hander Bill Wasko (Bethel Park, Pa.) picked-up his first collegiate victory after giving up no runs, on four hits and striking out three in three innings of relief of Brian Chruscial (Irwin, Pa.). Chruscial gave up five runs (four earned runs) and struck out five in six innings of work.
In game two, Plummer added two more hits, including a three-run double, and senior third baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) drove in two runs to lead the Mountain Cats to the 7-6 win and season sweep. Freshman right hander Garrett Pampiks (Gibsonia, Pa.) improved to 3-1 after giving up two runs on one hit in three inning of relief. Plummer, Pitt Johnstown;'s starter in the nightcap, piched four innings and gave up four runs on eight hits.
With the sweep, Slippery Rock dropped to 27-13.
The Mountain Cats host a four-game series against Bluefield State (WV) College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
