Mountain Cat Baseball Sweeps Bluefield State, 8-0 and 9-3

Head Coach Todd Williams Mountain Cat baseball team rebounded from a 10-6 loss to Bluefield State in a game that was suspended due to rain and finished on Sunday by sweeping the Big Blues, 8-0 and 9-3 Sunday afternoon. Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) tossed five scoreless innings in the opener to improve to 1-2, and David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) raised his record to 3-1 after giving up just one run in 4.2 innings in the nightcap. With the sweep, Pitt Johnstown improved to 8-9.
In game one, Boring scatterd six hits and struckout six to record the victory. Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) pitched two perfect innings and fanned two. Offensively, Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) went 2-for-4 and hit his second two-run homerun in as many days, while Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) added two hits and two RBI. Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) and Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) also had two hits apiece.
In game two, Huey gave up just one run on six hits and struckout four to earn the victory. Freshman Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) earned the save after giving up two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work. Fleck also struckout three. Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Drew Shawlis (Somerset, Pa.) chipped in two hits to help the Mountain Cats secure the sweep.
Bluefield State dropped to 7-8 on the year.
The Mountain Cats will make their 2008 home debut with a four-game series against Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Friday and Saturday. Both doubleheaders will start at 1:00 p.m. at Johnstown's Point Stadium.
