Mountain Cats Earn Home Sweep Over Wheeling Jesuit

The Mountain Cat baseball team improved to 12-13 with a 10-9 and 17-8 home sweep over Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Tuesday afternoon at George R. Walter Field. Sophomore outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) hit a grand slam to lead the Mountain Cats to a come-from-behind win in the opener, while junior second baseman Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) had four of Pitt Johnstown's 18 hits in the nightcap.
The Mountain Cats trailed 9-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one, until Hanley hit a long grand slam to right field to give Pitt Johnstown the 10-9 win. Delsignore went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs, while junior shortstop Chris turka Natrona Heights, Pa.) had two hits and a pair of RBI. Freshman third baseman Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) collected two hits in three at-bats. Freshman left hander Tyler Zaremski (Bethel Park, Pa.) earned his second win of the year after giving up one run on three hits in two innings of relief of Mike Jewart (Natrona Heights, Pa.).
In game two, Pitt Johnstown built a 17-5 lead after three innings and cruised to the 17-8 victory. Delsignore went 4-for-5 with two singles, a double and a triple, and senior outfielder Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) had three hits and three RBI. Turka chipped in two hits, three RBI and three runs, while Campanella, sophomore outfielder Josh Farabaugh (Altoona, Pa.) and freshman catcher Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) all had two hits. Sophomore right hander Garrett Pampiks (Gibsonia, Pa.) pitched 1.1 innings of relief to improve to 1-2. Pampiks surrendered two runs on four hits and struck out three.
With the sweep, Wheeling Jesuit dropped to 4-16 on the season.
The Mountain Cats travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College for a four-game WVIAC Conference on Friday and Saturday.
