Baseball Ties Alderson-Broaddus in Snow-Shortened Game

03/22/2008

Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College scored a pair of unearned in the top of the sixth inning Saturday afternoon at the Point Stadium to force a 4-4 tie in a game that was stopped due to snow in the seventh inning. Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) drove in two runs for Pitt Johnstown, now 10-9-1 on the season. Game two of the doubleheader was canceled.
The Battlers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Mountain Cats answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. After a Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) single and a Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) double, Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) drew a walk to load the bases. Josh Campanella (Allison, Pa.) was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Matt Hanley's (Delmont, Pa.) ground out drove in Delsignore to tie the score, 2-2. Plummer followed with a double to drive in Campanella and Petrowsky and give Pitt Johnstown a 4-2 lead. However, Alderson-Broaddus used three Pitt Johnstown errors in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score 4-4 and force the tie after snow began to lay on the field.
Delsignore and Demek each had two hits, while Plummer had two RBI and Campanella and Hanley each drove in a run. Mountain Cat right hander Ben Watkins (Johnstown, Pa.) pitched the first five innings and gave up two runs on just two hits. Watkins also struckout seven. Freshman Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) pitched the sixth inning and surrended two unearned runs.
With the tie, the Battlers are now 9-7-1.
The Mountain Cats will host a doubleheader against Daivs & Elkins (WV) College on Tuesday, before opening the WVIAC conference schedule at home with doubleheaders against West Liberty State (WV) College on Saturday and Sunday. All three doubleheaders are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
