Mountain Cats Sweep Davis & Elkins, 5-4 and 8-1

Head Coach Todd William's Mountain Cat baseball team made it six wins in its last seven games with a 5-4 and 8-1 sweep over visiting Davis & Elkins (WV) College Tuesday afternoon at Johnstown's Point Stadium. Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.) collected three hits in game one, while Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) belted a two-run homerun to highlight a six-run fifth inning in the nightcap. Pitt Johnstown is now 12-9-1.
In the opener, Pitt Johnstown built a 5-0 lead, before holding on for the 5-4 win. The Mountain Cats jumped out 2-0 with a pair of runs in the first inning. DelSignore started the inning with a double and Petrowsky singled him home. After a fielder's choice that moved Petrowsky to third, Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) reached on a error that allowed Petrowsky to score. Pitt Johnstown added three more runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Davis & Elkins answered with four unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and picked-up his second save of the year. Freshman right hander Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) improved to 2-1 after pitching five innings. Fleck gave up four unearned runs on five hits, whle striking out five. DelSignore went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored,while Petrowsky added a pair of hits and an RBI. Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) drove in a pair of runs in the win.
In game two, the Mountain Cats broke open a 2-1 lead with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pitt Johnstown sent 12 men to the plate and banged out six hits in that inning, including Petrowsky's two-run homer over the left field screen. Campanella went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) had three hits and had three RBI. Junior right hander Mike Jewart (Natrona Heights, Pa.) gave up one run on five hits in five innings-pitched to improve to 2-0. David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) and Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) pitched the final two innings and did not allow a hit. Faint struckout the side in the seventh inning.
With the losses, the Senators dropped to 4-16 on the season.
The Mountain Cats travel to the Universtiy of Charleston (WV) on Wednesday, before opening the WVIAC conference schedule at home with doubleheaders against West Liberty State (WV) College on Saturday and Sunday. Both home doubleheaders are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
