Baseball Splits at Concord to Open Four-Game Series

After dropping game one 13-6, Head Coach Todd Williams' Mountain Cats collected 17 hits to earn a 12-3 win at Concord (WV) University on Saturday to open a four-game WVIAC Conference series. With the split, Pitt Johnstown is now 15-17 overall and 7-4 in the WVIAC.
In the opener, the Mountain Cats were unable to overcome five errors and suffered a 13-6 loss. Sophomore right hander Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) took the loss after giving up 10 runs (five earned runs) on eight hits in four innings of work. Boring, who dropped to 4-2, also struckout four. Junior shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) went 3-for-3, while sophomore outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) and freshman third baseman Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) each had a pair of hits. Senior first baseman Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.) hit his first homerun of the season.
In game two, Pitt Johnstown banged out 17 hits, highlighted by junior second baseman Dan Delsignore's three-hit, four RBI performance. Senior designated hitter Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) and freshman catcher Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) added three hits apiece, while Hanley had two more hits, including his team-leading sixth homer of the season. Campanella and freshman outfielder Brad Dale (Windber, Pa.) both had two hits in the victory. Senior right hander Zach Stere (Bellwood, Pa.) improved to 3-4 after giving up just one run in six innings. Stere also scattered five hits and struckout four.
With the split, Concord is now 19-15 overall and 10-4 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats wrap up their four-game series at Concord with a doubleheader on Sunday at noon, before breaking for finals week.
