Mountain Cats Earn Sweep at Charleston

Junior Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Mountain Cats to a 7-5 win in Saturday's opener at the University of Charleston (WV). Pitt Johnstown completed the WVIAC Conference sweep with an 11-0 win over the Golden Eagles, highlighted by Bill Colosimo's (Summerhill, Pa.) three-run homerun. The Mountain Cats are now 18-18 overall and 10-5 in the WVIAC.
In game one, senior right hander Zach Stere (Bellwood, Pa.) improved to 4-4 after giving up four runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. Stere also struckout six Charleston hitters. Senior Justin Ronan (Portage, Pa.) pitched the seventh inning and picked-up his fourth save in four opportunities. Along with Delsignore's three hits, sophomore outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) had two hits and three RBI, and senior catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) added two two hits and two RBI.
In game two, Colosimo had three hits, including a three-run homer, while senior outfielder Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Head Coach Todd Williams also got two hits apiece from Delsignore, Pentz and freshman third baseman Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.). Hanley belted a solo homerun to give him a team best seven. Sophomore right hander Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) earned the win and improved to 5-2. Boring scattered six hits and struckout six in six innings pitched.
With the sweep, Charleston fell to 14-36 overall and 2-16 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College for a WVIAC Conference doubleheader on Sunday.
