Mountain Cats Sweep Charleston for Seventh Straight Win

03/18/2005

The Mountain Cat baseball team improved to 12-4 on the season and raised it unbeaten streak to seven straight games with a 15-12 and 4-2 come-from-behind sweep at the University of Charleston (WV) on Friday.
Senior outfielder Adam Fairman (Creekside, Pa.) went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI and sophomore Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Mountain Cats in game one. Junior catcher Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.) added three hits and two RBI and senior third baseman Anthony Yarkowski (Homer City, Pa.) had two hits and scored two runs. Pitt Johnstown senior left hander Ryan Harner (Dauphin, Pa.) pitched 5.2 innings and struck out one Charleston hitter to improve to 3-0 on the year.
In game two, Pitt Johnstown rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and secure a 4-2 victory. Junior right hander Brian Chruscial (Irwin, Pa.) earned the win in relief of Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) to even his record at 1-1. Plummer scattered five hits in five innings-pitched before giving way to Chruscial. Freshman Scott Parnell (Export, Pa.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick-up his first collegiate save. Junior first baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) had a double and an RBI and Plummer tripled for Pitt Johnstown.
Pitt Johnstown is scheduled to play a single game at Columbia Union (MD) College on Sunday, before making its 2005 home debut on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. against Saint Vincent College.
