Baseball Sweeps WV Wesleyan to End Season

The Mountain Cat baseball team wrapped up the 2007 season with four straight wins, including a 6-3 and 12-9 doubleheader sweep at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Sunday afternoon. Junior second baseman Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) collected five hits in the doubleheader to lead Pitt Johnstown, which ended the year with a 20-18 overall record and a second place finish in the WVIAC Southern Division with 12-5 conference mark.
In Sunday's opener, Delsignore, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while senior first baseman Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.) and freshman outfielder Dan Mangini (Lower Burrell, Pa.) each had two hits and an RBI. Freshman third baseman Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) also had two hits. Junior right hander David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) tossed a complete game to improve to 3-1. Huey gave up just three runs on seven hits.
In the nightcap, Delsignore had three more hits in five at-bats and three runs batted-in. Senior catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) and Campanella chipped in three hits apiece, and senior outfielder Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) drove in a pair of runs. Sophomore right hander Mike Jewart (Natrona Heights, Pa.) gave up three runs on four hits in four innings of work to even his record at 1-1. Jewart also struckout three, while sophomore left hander Bill Wasko (Bethel Park, Pa.) earned his first save.
With the sweep, West Virginia Wesleyan slipped to 16-10 overall and 9-9 in the WVIAC.
