Baseball Splits WVIAC Doubleheader With Wheeling Jesuit

The Mountain Cat baseball team got two hits and an RBI from Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) in a 4-2 win over Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University in Saturday's opening game of a WVIAC doubleheader at the Point Stadium. However, The Cardinals answered with a 5-2 win in the nightcap to earn a split. Pitt Johnstown is now 19-12-1 overall and 4-2 in league play.
In game one, Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) gave up two unearned runs in the first inning, but the Mountain Cats battled back with three runs in the second inning and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on Demek's RBI double to set the final score at 4-2. Boring picked up the win and improved to 3-2 after giving up the two unearned runs on four hits in five innings of work. Boring also struckout five. Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) had two hits and two RBI, while Demek went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.) and Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) also collected two hits.
In game two, the Cardinals again jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, and never gave up that lead in a 5-2 win. Pitt Johnstown cut it to 2-1in the third inning, but Wheeling Jesuit answered with single runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings. Petrowsky collected two of Pitt Johnstown's four hits, while Josh Campanella (Allison Park, Pa.) and DelSignore each had a hit and an RBI. Senior right hander David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) suffered the loss and fell to 4-2. Huey gave up five runs (four eraned runs) on nine hits in six innings-pitched.
With the split, the cardinals are now 8-19 overall and 3-3 in the WVIAC Northern Division.
Pitt Johnstown wraps up a four-game WVIAC series at Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., before hosting non-conference doubleheaders against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday and Ohio Valley (WV) University on Thursday.
