Mountain Cats Earn 7-5, 4-0 Sweep at Wheeling Jesuit

The Mountain Cat baseball team improved to 21-12-1 overall and 6-2 in the WVIAC Northern Division with a 7-5 and 4-0 sweep at Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Sunday afternoon. Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.) and two hits and drove in two runs in game one, and Ben Watkins (Johnstown, Pa.) tossed a complete-game shutout in the nightcap to help Pitt Johnstown take three out of four in the weekend series.
In Sunday's opener, DelSignore went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.), Justin Demek (Cabot, Pa.) and Chris Turks (Natrona Heights, Pa.) each collected two hits. Freshman right hander Kaleb Fleck (Claysburg, Pa.) raised his record to 4-1 after giving up five runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.
In game two, Watkins didn't allow a run, scattered four hits and struckout four in the complete-game effort. Watkins improved to 2-2. Freshman Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) had two hits, including a double and two RBI, and Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) went 2-for-4 to help the Mountain Cats complete the sweep.
With the losses, Wheeling Jesuit dropped to 8-21 overall and 3-5 in the WVIAC Northern Division.
Pitt Johnstown hosts non-conference doubleheaders against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday and Ohio Valley (WV) University on Thursday. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at George R. Walter Field on the Pitt Johnstown campus.
