Baseball Team Splits Doubleheader at Davis & Elkins College

03/30/2005

After splitting a pair of games at Slippery Rock University on Tuesday, the North Atlantic Region #6-ranked Mountain Cat baseball team came away with another doubleheader split on Wednesday. This time, Pitt Johnstown dropped a 6-0 decision to North Atlantic Region #8-ranked Davis & Elkins (WV) College, before rebounding for a 7-3 win in the nightcap. The Mountain Cats are now 14-6 on the year.
Despite being shutout in game one, Head Coach Todd Williams' team responded with a needed victory in game two. Senior right hander Matt Hayes (Windber, Pa.) improved to 2-0 after giving up just two earned runs in a complete-game, four-strikeout effort. Senior outfielder Adam Fairman (Creekside, Pa.) collected three hits and drove in two runs, while senior third baseman Anthony Yarkowski (Homer City, Pa.) and junior first baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) each had a double and two RBI. Sophomore infielder Dan Delsignore (Johnstown, Pa.) also had two hits, including a double. With the split, Davis & Elkins is now 17-10 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown travels to Clarion University on Thursday and Ohio Valley (WV) College on Saturday, before making its 2005 home debut with a doubleheader on Sunday at noon against Ohio Valley College.
