Mountain Cats Split Doubleheader With WV Wesleyan

Freshman right hander Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) pitched six strong innings to improve to 5-0 and lead Pitt Johnstown to a 7-4 win in Wednesday's opener of a doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan College at George R. Walter Field. However, the Bobcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings and earned the split with a 10-4 win in game two. The Mountain Cats are now 22-13-1.
Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) went 3-for-3 with a solo homerun, two singles and three runs scored to lead the Mountain Cats to a 7-4 win in the opener. Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) belted a two-run homerun, while Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.), Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) and Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) all added two hits. Shaulis also drove in a pair of runs. Moore improved to 5-0 after surrendering three runs on six hits in six innings of work. Moore also fanned five and walked two.
In the nightcap, West Virginia Wesleyan scored seven runs on eight hits in the first three innings off of Pitt Johnstown starter Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) in the 10-4 win. The Bobcats added three more runs in the the sixth inning, before Pitt Johnstown tallied its four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by DelSignore's two-run triple to center field. Delsignore finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and freshman Korey Luciow (York, Pa.) hit a pinch-hit solo homer over the right field fence. Barbera suffered the loss and slipped to 0-2 after pitching just 2.2 innings.
With the split, West Virginia Wesleyan is now 21-8.
Pitt Johnstown will host Ohio Valley (WV) University on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Johnstown's Point Stadium, before traveling to Shepherd (WV) University for a four-game WVIAC series on Saturday and Sunday.
