Baseball Team Opens Season With 4-1 Win at Concord

02/24/2006

Head Coach Todd Williams (9th season) and the Mountain Cat baseball team opened the 2006 baseball season with a 4-1 win at Concord (WV) University, Friday afternoon. Senior first baseman Casey Long (Johnstown, Pa.) belted a three-run homerun in the top of the first inning to give Pitt Johnstown a lead it would never give up.
Long finished the day 2-5, including his homerun, while junior outfielders Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) and Cody Gallaher (Sidman, Pa.) and sophomore shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.) were all 2-4.
Coach Williams also got a solid pitching performance from starter Brian Chruscial (Iwin, Pa.). The senior right hander gave up four hits, struck out five and didn't surrender a run in six innings of work to pick up the victory. Sophomore David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) gave up just one run over the final three innings to pick up the save.
The Mountain Cats will play a doubleheader at Concord beginning at noon on Saturday, before traveling to Fort Pierce, FL over Spring Break from March 4-10.
