Mountain Cats Drop Doubleheader at Concord

02/25/2006

After opeing the season with a victory at Concord (WV) University on Friday, Head Coach Todd Williams and the Mountain Cat baseball team suffered 11-2 and 11-3 losses to Concord on Saturday to wrap up the three-game series. Pitt Johnstown is now 1-2 on the year.
In game one, senior catcher Josh Mearkle (Everett, Pa.) collected two hits, while freshman outfielder Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) and junior designated hitter Bill Colosimo (Summerhill, Pa.) each had a hit and an RBI for Pitt Johnstown. Sophomore left hander Scott Parnell (Export, Pa.) suffered the loss after giving up six runs on four hits in less than an inning-pitched.
In game two, Concord scored six runs off of Mountain Cat freshman pitcher Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) in the first inning and went on to the 11-3 victory. Boring, who only gave up one earned run, also struck out one and walked one in two innings of work. Sophomore shortstop Chris Turka (Natrona Heights, Pa.), junior outfielder Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) and Mearkle all belted solo homeruns to account for all three Pitt Johnstown runs and three of the five Mountain Cat hits.
With the doubleheader sweep, Concord improved to 2-1 to start the season.
The Mountain Cats travel to Fort Pierce, FL over Spring Break from March 4-10.
